GMR Airports Joins UN Global Compact, Reinforces Commitment to Sustainable Growth

New Delhi, February 03, 2025: GMR Airports Limited (formerly GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited), the largest airport operator in India, is proud to announce its membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

By signing up for the UNGC, GMR Airports has pledged to align its strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the UNGC, which focus on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption, as well as to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This significant milestone underscores GMR Airports' unwavering commitment to embedding sustainability across its operations, fostering innovation, and driving positive change for communities and the planet.

Building a Sustainable Aviation Future

As one of the foremost airport operators in India and globally, GMR Airports has consistently led by example in advancing sustainability in aviation, aligning itself with the SDGs and India’s national priorities. All GMR's airports are green building certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) or the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), ensuring sustainable practices from the design phase itself.

The Company is actively advancing climate action by pursuing carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions through energy-efficient systems, renewable energy adoption, and low-carbon technologies. Its operations prioritize sustainable infrastructure with initiatives like rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and circular waste management.

Through the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, the GMR Group has positively impacted over a million lives in the past decade by promoting education, skill development, and healthcare, and fostering social equity and economic empowerment.
