Manohar International Airport (MIA) A Year of Unprecedented Growth and Excellence


In the past year, Manohar International Airport (MIA) {developed & operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd.} has witnessed remarkable achievements and invaluable lessons. Boasting increased passenger growth, expanded routes, and the launch of international services, MIA now connects to 25 domestic and 4 international destinations. All domestic operated airlines like Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara & Spicejet are servicing at Mopa, International destinations are being served by Air India, Oman Air, Indigo & Tui. Handling over 3 million passengers since its inauguration on January 5, 2023, MIA has become a pivotal player in transforming Goa's air traffic landscape.  

Breaking historical trends, MIA sustained consistent air traffic throughout the year, defying the traditional decline witnessed during the summer season. The number of domestic destinations connected to Goa has more than doubled, now reaching 29, up from 14 before MIA operations began. The ongoing Phase 3 Stage 1 expansion, aiming to reach ~8 million passengers per annum, is set to be completed before the Winter schedule of 2024. 

Recognizing MIA's excellence, the Airport Authority of India has ranked MIA among the top 15 airports in India in November 2023, a testament to its rapid ascent in the aviation sector.


MIA's infrastructure is a marvel, featuring a Code E/F compliant runway, extensive taxiways, and a state-of-the-art passenger terminal building. The airport is well-connected with a planned multi-modal infrastructure, including a 6-lane expressway and railway access.

Passenger Experience:

MIA offers a unique and vibrant Goan experience for passengers, engaging all five senses. From curated fragrances to Goan-themed art galleries, special cuisine outlets, and live music, MIA ensures a memorable travel experience. Awarded the Best Passenger Experience Design by CII in 2023, MIA attains an outstanding 4.9 satisfaction rating in Airport quality surveys.

Awards and Recognitions:

MIA has garnered multiple awards, including "Best Sustainable Greenfield Airport," "Construction Safety," and "Best Environmental Practices." Achieving IGBC Platinum Rating for the Passenger Terminal, MIA is recognized globally for its sustainability initiatives. Notable awards include recognition at the International Airport Summit in London and the CII India Design Summit.


Since initiating cargo services in January 2023, MIA has become a vital hub for economic growth in Goa. Handling diverse cargo, from pharmaceuticals to vegetables, MIA's temperature-controlled cargo terminal has processed around 750 metric tons in the first 11 months of operation.
