Coming from a rural hinterland of East Godavari district, Shyam's early schooling years were extremely tough, getting quality education within his family's financial reach was no less than a dream. But with GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT), Shaym not only completed his B.tech but also bagged a high-paying job in a renowned MNC. Located about 100 km from Vishakapatnam, GMRIT offers a beautiful campus spread across 117 acres. Established in 1997, GMR Institute of Technology has come a long way since its inception and has carved a niche for itself among the academic institutions of the nation. Even after being set up in the rural lands of Andhra Pradesh, the institution stands equipped with all the world-class facilities and amenities that one comes across in any of the premier institutions in India. And, many popular education magazines in the country have listed GMRIT in top 50 private Affiliated Engineering colleges of the country, in their respective surveys.

Being an institution set in the heart of rural regions of Rajam, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh GMRIT offers a broad spectrum of technical courses in tune with the dynamic requirements of industries, globally. As the flagship institute of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation- the corporate social responsibility arm of GMR Group, GMRIT has set high standards for itself and offers an idyllic and conducive environment for higher studies.

Crafting Right Courses to drive Futuristic Global Economy

The student community at GMRIT is offered a broad spectrum of technical courses in tune with industry requirements. The Institute is presently offering seven U. G. programs in B. Tech. (Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology. Further the institute also offers P. G. program in all relevant disciplines of Engineering. Presently the Institute is enrolled with approximately 3500+ students across all branches of engineering and approximately 50% of the students are offered residential facilities in the hostel, within the campus.

GMRIT emphasizes collaborative learning between industry and academia as a means of reinforcing its curriculum with practical experience relevant to industry needs. The institute constantly strives for improvement, competing with the premier institutions of national importance. The campus provides a technology enabled conducive learning environment and provides services round the clock for a holistic growth. Further the Institute adopts Outcome Based Education in the way it is being expected where the problem solving skills and creativity are well emphasized as mentioned in the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Creating a Talent Pool for Industry

The curriculum is devised to cater to the industry needs and students given training by internal and external faculty to equip them for a holistic education. Guest lectures by subject matter experts are a regular feature as part of the learning. The department of CSE & IT has taken a giant leap in enhancing the coding proficiency among the students across all other branches in the form of SKILL GMRIT. The students are also encouraged to participate in hackathons and other technical contests that are conducted.

GMRIT stood as a first runner in offering Institutionalized full semester internship (FSI) leveraging the potential of autonomy among autonomous institutions in the state of AP. GMRIT drives the training and placement activities through a separate department of Career and Development Center (CDC). The CDC takes care of all the activities related to placement training, higher education, entrepreneurship, internship and placement. The CDC has a separate wing that works exclusively for internship. As of now approximately 1000+ students were sent for FSI and 30% of the students given a pre-placement offer. Further approximately 8000+ students have been sent for summer internship since 2013-2014. Along with this more than 2500 students from GMRIT have been well placed by various corporates and MNCs with encouraging compensation packages in the last five years.

Bringing global education to India

With the motto, "Training Tomorrow's Engineers Today", this institution includes all the courses related to the new-age skills. A few of them are: Smart Transport System, Building Information Modelling, Super Computing, Electric Vehicle Technology, Automotive Electronics, Robotics and Industrial Automation, Digital Manufacturing, Cyber Security, Digital Chip Design and Smart Grid.

GMRIT has taken a remarkable step in establishing an exclusive laboratory for AI. This Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the first of its kind among private engineering institutions in AP, is setup with High Performance Computing facility with NVIDIA QUADRO RTX6000 workstations and P1000 desktops. This laboratory is a boon to students who can sharpen their skills and carry out research. This established laboratory has a dedicated team of experts in AI and presently offers online certification courses in AI and related technologies to the students across all disciplines of Engineering and Technology. There are plans to open up this facility to external students as well.

GMRIT is also ramping up its collaborations to provide global exposure to its students by entering into various Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with foreign universities and industries for all possible academic and research alliances. This has opened up several opportunities for students to get hands-on industry experience with internships in global companies along with the financial support.
