Energy Efficiency efforts of GMR Businesses achieves national recognition

These environment sustainability efforts were recently recognized at the 21st National Awards for "Excellence in Energy Management" organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Godrej Green Business Centre (GBC). In the ceremony, GMR led Hyderabad and Delhi Airports and GMR Warora Energy Limited (GWEL) have won the prestigious "National Energy Leader" and "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" awards. GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) on the other hand, was also recognized with the "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" award at the program.

The announcement was made by CII- GBC during a virtual Energy Award event for 2020 held on August 28, 2020. The 'National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management' is instituted by CII to catalyze significant and innovative practices for the energy efficiency sector, thereby facilitating an energy efficient and sustainable growth for the Indian industry.

Energy efficiency highlights

  • GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL)
    Over the last three years GHIAL has achieved a substantial energy saving of around 4.55 MU in its operations owing to its consistent and sustainable approach towards energy efficiency measures, which has also led to a rapid dip in the GHG (Green House Gas) emissions.
  • Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL)
    Delhi Airport showcased key energy-saving and emission reduction initiatives, innovative projects, and other environmental aspects such as waste and water management, climate change adaptation strategies, Oxygen Optimizer, UV Lamps in Re-circulated Air Handling Units and Customized Variable Frequency Drive integration with AHU without CMS.
  • GMR Warora Energy Limited (GWEL)
    Driven by the philosophy of delivering value to its stakeholders, in the last 3 years GWEL had implemented nearly 60 energy saving projects which have led to electrical energy saving of around 602 Lakh Kwh and thermal energy saving of 237 billion Kcal.
  • GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL)
    GKEL achieved 320 Lakh kwh Annual Energy saving, which resulted in reduction of 22,000 MT in consumption of Coal and substantial reduction in the consumption of Water.
