Keeping Energy Conservation at forefront, RGIA wins another award.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) , has been awarded with Certificate of Merit for excellent efforts in the areas of energy conservation by Bureau of Energy Efficiency under prestigious 'National Energy Conservation Awards 2021' (NECA 2021). Hyderabad Airport has always been at the forefront of adopting energy efficiency practices. Over the last 6 years, GHIAL operations have led to a substantial energy saving of around 15.5 MU which led to a rapid dip in the Green House Gas emissions at the airport. GHIAL commissioned its second phase 5 MW solar power plant. With this addition of solar power generation, 50% of the energy requirements of Hyderabad Airport terminal will be met. There will be a reduction in carbon footprint by about 28 lakh kg carbon dioxide which is equivalent to saving of 1.4 lakh full grown trees.

This year, the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) and the National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) were organized as part of the "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav". At a grand event organized at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 14th December, 2021. Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy - Shri. R K Singh presented the award to senior officials of GHIAL.

It is worth noting that Hyderabad International Airport is also a Carbon Neutral Airport having Level 3 + "Neutrality" Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI) under its Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme. GHIAL is the only airport in the Airport Sector that received this distinct recognition, which reaffirms their unwavering commitment to render the best use of the energy resources available, which reaffirms their unwavering commitment to render the best use of the energy resources available.

As a responsible corporate, GHIAL will continue to be in the forefront of exploring and implementing best-in-class energy-conservation solutions and will continue to roll out many initiatives to actively reduce the carbon footprint. With the growing severity of the climate crisis, this award puts more onus on GHIAL to move towards cleaner and greener technology for the future generations.
