Elevating the Airport Experience for Families at Delhi Airport

13 March 2026

Air travel can be an exciting and an overwhelming experience for families. Managing children, elderly parents, luggage, travel documents and the pressures of time constraint in an unfamiliar environment can be stressful. At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, this reality is being met with empathy, commitment and thoughtful design.

With a considerable percentage of families flying, Delhi Airport has launched a passenger-first initiative called Family@DEL. This program is designed to provide a smoother, more relaxing and comfortable experience for families, especially those who may not be tech-savvy. Family@DEL is the embodiment of the philosophy #AirportCaresForYou in a very real sense.

Understanding the Needs of Family Travellers

The needs of a family are different from a solo or business traveller. Families need more time, physical assistance, clearer guidance and therefore prefer human support over digital interfaces. Understanding this, Delhi Airport designed Family@DEL to give people-led experience in place of technology heavy solutions.

Launched exclusively for families, the initiative focusses on simplifying every touchpoint from terminal entry to boarding, so that families can move through the airport with ease and confidence.

A Seamless Journey

At the heart of Family@DEL initiative is a guided passenger flow that supports families across their airport journey. Dedicated terminal entry points, airline check-in zones, and security areas help reduce waiting time and confusion. What truly differentiates the experience is the presence of trained Family@DEL staff, who personally guide families through these touchpoints.

This human assistance plays a critical role for passengers who may not be comfortable navigating digital signage, kiosks or apps.

Thoughtful Amenities That Make a Difference

Beyond movement and navigation, Family@DEL also enhances comfort through family-friendly amenities. Designated family seating zones at food courts allow parents and children to sit together comfortably, while kids’ menus with games add an element of fun and engagement during waiting time.

To further support families, the programme offers:

  • Baby strollers for easier mobility
  • PRM-friendly washrooms, ensuring accessibility for elderly passengers
  • Buggy services, helping families cover long terminal distances without fatigue

These features are not add-ons. They are integral to creating a stress free and inclusive airport environment for families travelling together.

Encouraging Comfort Through Simple Joys

Comfort during travel is beyond infrastructure. It also includes moments of joy. As part of the program, children receive an INR 350 food and beverage voucher, encouraging them to enjoy specially curated kids’ menus at airport outlets.

This small but thoughtful gesture allows families to relax, take a break, and enjoy a meal together turning waiting time into a positive shared experience rather than a logistical challenge.

Strong Adoption and Positive Feedback

Since its inauguration on 5 February 2026, Family@DEL has seen promising usage across all terminals. On an average day, it facilitates 200–240 family groups at Terminal 3, 150–180 at Terminal 1 and 40–60 at Terminal 2. This indicates a strong demand for assisted family travel experiences.

Passenger feedback also reflects the success of the program. Among the 581 responses, an overwhelming 575 were positive and not a single response was negative. This response shows how deeply families value care-driven interventions that simplify their journey.

An Airport That Leads with Empathy

Family@DEL is not just a service. It is a statement about how passenger experience should be designed. In an era where airports are becoming increasingly digital, Delhi Airport has taken a balanced approach. It ensures human care remains at the centre of the journey.

By acknowledging that not all passengers are tech-savvy and that families need additional support, the airport is redefining what it means to be world-class. It is not just about speed and scale but about how cared for passengers feel.

Setting a New Benchmark for Family Travel

This initiative by Delhi Airport is setting a new benchmark for family-friendly air travel in India. It demonstrates how airports can be smart and sophisticated without being scary or intimidating. Airports can continue to be efficient and streamlined without losing their human touch.

As families navigate the airport terminals with warm guidance and support, they know they are in an airport that cares for them. And for millions of families travelling each year, this care makes all the difference.
