Elevating the Airport Experience for Families at Delhi Airport

13 March 2026

For families, air travel can be both exciting and overwhelming. Managing children, elderly parents, luggage, documents, and time pressures often in unfamiliar, high-energy environments can turn even a short journey into a stressful experience. At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, this reality is being addressed with empathy, intent, and thoughtful design.

With a significant share of passengers travelling as families, Delhi Airport has introduced Family@DEL, a passenger-first initiative created to make airport journeys smoother, calmer, and more comfortable for family travellers especially those who may not be tech-savvy. Rooted in the belief that infrastructure must be matched with care, Family@DEL brings to life the philosophy of #AirportCaresForYou in a very tangible way.

Understanding the Needs of Family Travellers

Family travellers have needs that are distinct from solo or business passengers. They require more time, clearer guidance, physical assistance, and reassurance often preferring human support over digital interfaces. Recognising this, Delhi Airport designed Family@DEL as an assisted, people-led experience, rather than a technology-heavy solution.

Launched as a dedicated programme for families, Family@DEL focuses on simplifying every key touchpoint from terminal entry to boarding, so that families can move through the airport with ease and confidence.

A Seamless Journey, Step by Step

At the heart of Family@DEL is a guided passenger flow that supports families across the airport journey. Dedicated terminal entry points, airline check-in zones, and security areas help reduce waiting time and confusion. What truly differentiates the experience, however, is the presence of trained Family@DEL staff, who personally guide families through these touchpoints.

This human assistance plays a critical role for passengers who may not be comfortable navigating digital signages, kiosks, or apps. Instead of figuring things out alone, families are supported by staff who understand their needs and help them move smoothly through the airport.

Thoughtful Amenities That Make a Difference

Beyond movement and navigation, Family@DEL also enhances comfort through family-friendly amenities. Designated family seating zones at food courts allow parents and children to sit together comfortably, while kids' menus with games add an element of fun and engagement during waiting time.

To further support families, the programme offers:

  • Baby strollers for easier mobility
  • PRM-friendly washrooms, ensuring accessibility for elderly passengers
  • Buggy services, helping families cover long terminal distances without fatigue

These features are not add-ons, they are integral to creating a stress-free and inclusive airport environment for families travelling together.

Encouraging Comfort Through Simple Joys

Family@DEL also recognises that comfort goes beyond infrastructure, it includes moments of joy. As part of the programme, children receive an INR 350 food and beverage voucher, encouraging them to enjoy specially curated kids' menus at airport outlets.

This small but thoughtful gesture allows families to relax, take a break, and enjoy a meal together turning waiting time into a positive shared experience rather than a logistical challenge.

Strong Adoption and Positive Feedback

Since its inauguration on 5 February 2026, Family@DEL has seen encouraging usage across terminals. On an average day, the programme supports 200-240 family groups at Terminal 3, 150-180 at Terminal 1, and 40-60 at Terminal 2, highlighting the strong demand for assisted family travel experiences.

Passenger feedback further reinforces the programme's impact. Out of 581 feedback responses, an overwhelming 575 were positive, with no negative feedback recorded. This response reflects how deeply families value care-driven interventions that simplify their journey.

An Airport That Leads with Empathy

Family@DEL is more than a service. It is a statement about how passenger experience should be designed. In an era where airports are becoming increasingly digital, Delhi Airport has taken a balanced approach, ensuring that human care remains at the centre of the journey.

By acknowledging that not all passengers are tech-savvy and that families need additional support, the airport is redefining what it means to be world-class. It is not just about speed and scale, but about how cared for passengers feel.

Setting a New Benchmark for Family Travel

Through Family@DEL, Delhi Airport is setting a new benchmark for family-friendly travel in India. It shows that airports can be intuitive without being intimidating, efficient without being impersonal, and modern without losing their human touch.

As families move through the terminals guided, supported, and welcomed, the message is clear: this is an airport that cares. And for millions of family travellers each year, that care makes all the difference.
