Be ready for an enhanced arrival experience at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1

16 February 2022

In a bid to enhance passenger experience with safe, secured and sustainable infrastructural facilities, Delhi Airport has built the new Terminal 1 Arrival. Developed by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Group-led consortium, the terminal emanates the elegance of aesthetics meeting innovation.

Making the terminal bigger and better we now have the new arrival hall spanning across 8,000 square meter, equipped with four new baggage reclaim carousels. Sufficient space has been assigned between the baggage belts to avoid overcrowding. On the city side, the pickup lanes outside the Arrival terminal have been realigned and expanded to three additional lanes, taking the total number of lanes to 11. This will ease traffic congestion and significantly improve passenger experience and convenience during pickup.

The enhancement of Arrival Terminal 1 is done as part of Phase 3A Expansion project, the large-scale development and modernization plan for the airport. The project is set to make Delhi Airport future-ready by increasing the terminal capacity to 100 million passengers per annum (MPPA) while raising the airside capacity to 140 MPPA.

In line with DIAL's green initiatives, the new Arrival Terminal has been built as green building, keeping globally renowned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building standards in mind. LEED provides a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings. As part of it, DIAL has used daylight concept in the terminal building, which will reduce electricity consumption, as there will be ample natural light during the day. In addition, lighting fixtures and equipment like HVAC and baggage belts are energy efficient and thus consume less power.

Apart from these, DIAL has also used eco-friendly and human-friendly products in the terminal. There are modern toilets that have changing facilities. Baby care rooms are also provided for usage by families. The PRM washroom, has been equipped with special call bell for any emergency conditions.

Other developments include a contemporary meet & greet zone, plush forecourt area, including landscaping and kiosks for food and beverage (F&B), retail and expanded parking area for cars, etc. Upon completion, the new Terminal 1 would have integrated arrival and departure terminals, a new node building housing retail and F&B outlets, and a Pier building comprising 22 contact stands.
