From inception, to its journey till date GMR Hyderabad International Airport has been a pioneer of leading airport technologies that ensures enhanced passenger experience. The focus is not just at improving the excellence of services but also at improving the sustainability levels of various methods adopted at the airport.

With the inauguration of the airport in 2008, it ushered in a number of first-of-its-kind technological innovations for the airport sector in the country, including the first ever integrated and centralized Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) and an array of modern passenger information systems and technological initiatives. To meet the passenger demand, the airport at present is in the mode of expansion which will enable the airport to enhance its capacity over a period of time to cater to over 34 MPPA.

Key Milestones of our passenger delight journey:

2009 - Commissioned India's 1st and only Aerospace park in an Airport.
2010 - India's 1st and only Dedicated Pharma Zone Commissioned at GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo
2012 - GMR Aero Technic, a World-class 3rd Party Airframe MRO Inaugurated; GMR Aviation Academy at Hyderabad Airport becomes IATA Authorized Training center.
2014 - Schulich Business School India Campus Inaugurated at GMR Hyderabad International Airport
November' 2015 - A 5 MW solar energy power plant was commissioned at Hyderabad International Airport, which led to reducing its thermal electricity consumption. This green energy meets approx. 15% of the airport's total electricity demand.
December' 2015 - First airport in India to offer end-to-end E-boarding facility for all domestic flights, offering seamless and fully paperless experience for the passengers. Today all the domestic services operating from Hyderabad International Airport is on the e-boarding system, making Hyderabad the only airport in the country to offer 100% 'stamping-free' travel to its domestic passengers.
2016 - Only Airport in India to handle An-225, World's Largest Aircraft.
August' 2017 - First and only airport in the country to offer 'Express Security Check' facility for passengers traveling with only hand-baggage.
October' 2018 - International Operations commenced at the Interim International Departures Terminal (IIDT) with effect from 23rd October, 2018. IIDT has an exclusive concourse to handle check-in, security, immigration and customs processes for departing international passengers and it is connected to the main Passenger Terminal Building.
December' 2018 - Hyderabad Airport handled highest number of passengers - over 70K in a single day on 21st Dec' 2018, which was also the highest ever since the inception of the airport. On 30th Dec' 2018, Hyderabad Airport also handled 540 Air Traffic Movement (ATM), which was again the highest ever ATMs registered since the airport's inception. The same month, Hyderabad International Airport handled 19.3 Lakh passengers, which was the highest pax footfall handled in any month since its inception.
March' 2019 - Interim Domestic Arrival Passengers Terminal (IDAT) was inaugurated on the 11th Anniversary of the GMR Hyderabad International Airport i.e., 23rd March, 2019.
April' 2019 - DGCA Permits GHIAL to use stand-by Secondary Runway during night times.
July' 2019 - Hyderabad International Airport became the first airport in India to initiate Face Recognition Trials.
September' 2019 - GMR led Hyderabad International Airport became India's first airport to induct a Cloud-based Central Irrigation Control System.
November' 2019 - Under Government of India's 'One Nation - One Tag' GHIAL introduces FasTag Car Park system at the airport.
March' 2020 - GHIAL becomes Single-use Plastic free airport from 1st March 2020
March' 2020 - Airport closed due to Covid (March 25' 2020)
May' 2020 - Airport operations recommence after 2 months lockdown (May 25' 2020)
November' 2020 - Covid testing facility launched at GHIAL.
Jan' 2021 - First Covid vaccine transshipment (Jan 12' 2021); Non-Stop Flights service between Hyderabad-Chicago (Jan 15' 2021); Refurbished Premium Plaza Lounge at Domestic Departures (Jan 19' 2021)
Feb' 2021 - Hyderabad-Male Direct flight launch (Feb 11' 2021)
