Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad Receives ISO 14064
Hyderabad, 31st March 2012:
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd’s (GHIAL) Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has successfully accredited its Greenhouse gas (GHG) Inventory, including Greenhouse gas emissions and removals, for reporting years 2009 to 2011, according to the ISO 14064-1: 2006 specification. M/s. Bureau Veritas conducted independent audit and issued its verification statement on 31st March 2012.
Thus RGIA became only the Second Airport in India and the Third in Asia to complete the Verification of GHG accounting of the Airport as per ISO 14064-1:2006.
With increasing emphasis on climate change and its business impact, this achievement shows RGIA’s preparedness towards tackling climate change and its impact on business. It also demonstrates RGIA's thought leadership towards environment and commitment for conducting business in sustainable way.
RGIA is not just a Greenfield Airport but a Green airport primarily developed on eco-friendly concepts. Since its inceptions, focus has been on creating large landscaped greenery in the airport, achieving continual improvement in energy efficiency and energy conservation, designing and constructing green buildings and taking host of other green initiatives. The various initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the management towards making RGIA a truly environment friendly airport. The Silver LEED certification of the terminal building and office building, CAPA award for the “Airport Environment Performance of the year-2009, Best Greenfield Airport award by the Air Passenger Association of India and Integrated Management System certification (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) are some of the testimonials of RGIA’s commitment towards a better environment.
The verification of GHG inventories as per ISO 14064-1:2006 helps RGIA in reducing its carbon intensity, which is carbon footprint per passenger or per ton of cargo handled, cost of energy and meet GHG accounting international norms in aviation sector.
