In many of the smaller towns and villages where GMRVF is active, there is hardly any culture of using a library or availability of career counseling. Preparations of youth for appearing for competitive exams are often hampered because the books are prohibitively expensive. In the absence of avenues for interacting with peers or with mentors there is little enthusiasm, motivation or guidance for them.

To bridge this gap precisely, the Prathiba Library and Counseling Centre was started in 2005 at Rajam with 360 books and subscription to five periodicals. Today, the Centre has about 666 books and subscribes to 17 periodicals. The objective of the Centre is to provide a learning environment, career and higher education guidance, and help youth to prepare for their future.

Students come here for personal study and reference material; to interact with peers; get necessary inputs from external resource persons; and to avail counseling services to build up their confidence and capacities. The Centre also prepares youth for competitive exams like RRB, DSC, Bank PO and Clerks examinations etc. through regular classes, practice tests and mock interviews. It also guides the members towards suitable employment and higher education opportunities.

The Centre has served about 2000 members so far. Presently 422 (Female-71, Male-351) aspirants have enrolled. Several members of Pratibha Library secured good jobs in public and private companies.

Success of Pratibha Centre at Rajam led to replicating the model at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and at Raikheda in Chhattisgarh.

  • More than 250 members have secured employment at different job levels in public and private sectors with assistance and guidance from this Center. (Group-2 services: 2, Defence and Police: 60, Teachers: 51, Bank POs: 2, Bank Clerks: 36, other Govt. services: 24 and Private jobs: 82)

  • Some of the youth trained at this Center got good ranks in various University Entrance Exams.

  • The Centre is now providing Computer training in MS-office. Office Assistant training is also provided to the aspiring candidates.

  • In a very short span of time, Kakinada Pratibha Centre helped 110 youth in getting selection for various positions at Public and Private sector companies.
