SWARNA BHARATHI INSTITUTE OF RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT (SIRED)

Swarna Bharathi Institute of Rural Entrepreneurship Development (SIRED) was established in 2003 at Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) as a partnership of GMRVF, Andhra Bank Rural Development Trust and the Swarna Bharati Trust.

The main objective of the Institute is to identify, orient, motivate, train and assist rural youth to take self-employment venture as an alternative career. It also aims at capacity building of rural women. The candidates are mostly educated (minimum Std. VII) unemployed rural youth in the age group of 18-35 years. The selection procedure is based on personal interview and an aptitude test. Priority is given to the economically and socially disadvantaged group.

The trainees are provided free training, boarding and lodging and to and fro conveyance. Training is provided by experienced guest faculties and technicians. Along with quality training, life skills are imparted to the trainees.

Monitoring, follow up and evaluation of the trained candidates is a continuous process up to a period of 2 years after completion of the training programme. The follow-up is done through regular correspondence, telephone talk and personal visit to their places. The institute assists the needy candidates to secure bank loans and in setting up of micro - enterprises.

  • The institute conducts both EDP (Entrepreneurship Development Programme) and in-situ (on field) programmes.

  • The institute has trained 6443 youth (4064 male and 2379 female).

Satya’- A Successful Enterprise

N. Sumanth Kumar is from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. After completion of Intermediate, he was unable to pursue higher studies as the family was unable to afford his education. Further, his parents were not in favor of their son going for higher studies. It was at this time that he heard about SIRED’s training in A/C and Refrigeration Mechanism. He joined the course. After the completion of the course, Sumanth started a small A/C mechanic shop in Nellore. Gradually, his shop, ‘Satya’, became popular. He got Annual Maintenance Contracts from few Hotels at Nellore for servicing of their Air conditioners. Now he is earning Rs.8000/- per month and he has given employment to two more ex-trainees of SIRED.
