GMR Group’s Farukhnagar-Jadcherla highway project was inaugurated by Mr. T.R. Balu – Union Minister for Surface Transport on 11th February 2009. The project was completed within the stipulated time agreed under the Concession agreement and has received the provisional completion certificate. This is the Group’s second highways project in Andhra Pradesh, the first one being the Tuni-Anakapalli stretch on NH-5.
The 58 km stretch is situated on NH7 between Farukhnagar & Jadcherla on the Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway. The project, executed on a Build, Operate and Transfer basis using the Toll model, was completed in two and a half years. The concession period for this project is 20 years.
GMR Group won the road project through an international competitive bid from the NHAI in October, 2005. The Group had achieved its financial closure on 18th August, 2006.The scope of the project involves widening of the existing 2-lanes to 4-lanes and improvement, operation and maintenance, rehabilitation and strengthening of the existing road. The Group has also constructed a 6 lane state of the art toll plaza for toll collection.
Four laning of the stretch is expected to ease the traffic congestion and provide a tremendous boost to trade and commerce in the region. The road has been build to world-class standards and will provide travelers a safe and fast means to commute.
