Warora, Maharashtra
GMRVF initiated its community service activities in Warora, Maharashtra in March, 2010. Foundation works in 5 villages at this location namely Dahegaon, Dongergaon, Chinora, Naidev and Nimsada. The total population of these villages is about 10,000.
Education
Based on the needs assessment that was conducted in 5 schools and 6 Anganwadis, infrastructure support like compound walls, school painting, electrical fitting etc have been provided. Joyful learning materials including toys have been distributed to all the six Anganwadis to make the children interested in Anganwadi.
Foundation is running tuition centers in 3 villages benefiting 52 students from Std. IX and X.
Different competitions like Drawing, English Speaking, and General Knowledge etc. are conducted in all the 5 schools of the area from time to time to enhance overall development of the students. More than 4500 children are benefited from such programs. Environment awareness and plantation programs are also organized in all the 5 schools involving all the children and teachers of these schools.
Health, Hygiene and Sanitation
Based on the needs assessment study conducted in the villages, medical clinics have been set up in all the five villages which provide services to more than 1000 patients per month.
General and specialized health camps are organized from time to time to offer specialized health care services at the door steps of the community members.
One Mobile Medicare Unit (MMU) has been inaugurated recently. This unit is a fully equipped van having basic medical equipment and medicines and is accompanied by a qualified doctor, pharmacist and social worker. It visits the various villages and provides health care services to the elderly at their door steps. The MMU is run in partnership with Helpage India and provides about 1000 treatments per month.
Nutrition support is being provided to 43 pregnant and lactating women.
Empowerment and Livelihoods
Six youth from the 5 project villages were sent to Construction Industry Development Council, Faridabad for training on General Works Supervision. Another 33 youth were sent for a one month course on welding at Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI), Haliyal-Karnataka. More youth are being identified for relevant training.
Career Guidance and Personality development programs were organized for youth from which 163 youth benefited.
Meetings are conducted for Self Help Groups (SHGs) from time to time to bring awareness among the members on the management and functioning of SHGs.
Agriculture extension education programs are organized for farmers to improve their knowledge on various modern, scientific methods of farming.
Community Development
One community library has been established to improve the reading habits among the children, youth and other community members.
Cricket tournament and other sports competitions are conducted from time to time to build good rapport with the youth so that they can be encouraged to participate in community development initiatives.
Several days of importance like Independence Day, International Women’s Day etc. are celebrated with the community members to generate awareness among them on the importance of those days.
