GMRVF initiated its community development activities at Hospet in 2010. At Hospet, GMRV Foundation works intensively with the communities of 3 villages namely Hosahalli, Hosalinpura and Chandragiri.
Education
Foundation has adopted two Anganwadis which provide care and support to children in the age group of 3-6 years. Around 75 children are attending the centers. The support provided to the Anganwadis includes support teachers, play materials, exposure visits for children, teachers training etc. Through Anganwadi centers, services like growth monitoring, supplementary nutrition, regular health check-ups are provided to the children. Cognitive and loco-motor development aspects of children are strengthened through joyful learning methods. Training and orientation are given to the mothers on best child rearing practices and family planning methods.
Foundation works with three Government schools to improve the quality of education. As part of the school development plan, Foundation provided safe drinking water, additional classrooms, mid day meals plates, play materials, additional teachers etc. to the schools. Moreover, Foundation organizes tuition centers, exposure visits and various extracurricular activities benefitting more than 2500 children.
Health, Hygiene and Sanitation
Medical and health checkups for the children/families are conducted regularly and follow-up treatments are given. Regular medical camps including specialized camps like eye-camp are conducted benefitting more than 3000 people every year. Foundation conducts health education and awareness campaigns on family planning, environmental sanitation, personal hygiene and preventive measures for communicable diseases like TB and HIV/AIDS.
Empowerment and Livelihoods
Foundation has tie up with recognized training institutes for skill development for youth in the area of welding, mobile repair and electrician etc. 17 youth have been trained in different skills so far. Seven youth from two villages have been placed at GMR Power Corporation Ltd as housekeeping staff, electricians, weigh bridge operators etc.
Foundation is running one tailoring center benefitting 75 adolescent girls. Apart from tailoring, regular sessions are conducted on personality development, hygiene, life skill education etc. A specialized training on kasauti embroidery is ongoing at Hosahalli village benefitting 35 women.
Community Development
Foundation runs one community library at Chandragiri village. The Library is benefitting more than 500 community stakeholders.
Foundation organizes Road Safety Programmes for various stakeholders like drivers, school children, college students, road users, factory workers and SHG members etc. with the objective of educating and influencing them about basic Road Safety behavior, norms, rules and regulations. Various innovative method like street plays, rallies, banners, pamphlets etc are deployed to impart road safety awareness.
