Health is an important dimension of well-being. Recognizing the importance of preserving health of people, GMRVF has ventured into this area of making health services accessible to the community.
Many communities, where our Foundation is working, are deprived of access to health clinics or hospitals. People have practically no means to access medical assistance except travelling to far away facilities. However, poor economic conditions coupled with inadequate awareness on health care often prevented villagers from going out of their village to seek medical treatment in time. In many situations, this has proved to be serious.
As a response to this, Foundation initiates health clinics in areas where health care facilities are unavailable. These clinics are generally open once in a week and presently 20 clinics are run by the Foundation in different locations.
Highlights
- GMRVF is forging partnerships with hospitals etc. wherever possible to operate the health clinics. In Chhattisgarh, for example, Foundation is running medical clinics in partnership with the Evangelical Mission Hospital. Such partnerships also help to provide referral services for patients who need further treatment.
- To make traditional healing systems like Ayurveda accessible to community, GMRVF also runs Ayurvedic clinics in different locations.
- To make health care accessible even to the people of remotest areas, Foundation paramedics visit the villages on a rotational basis.
Case Study
Making Health Care Accessible and Affordable!
In Holi Bajoli, Himachal, access to health care is poor. The nearest health care facility is in Chamba which is far away. To address the woes of the people here, Foundation has partnered with the Government and renovated the Ayurvedic Hospital, Holi. Foundation is also supporting an Ayurvedic Pharmacist. To make the health care more accessible, the Pharmacist visits the surrounding villages and gives health assistance to the villagers.
