Introduction: The benefits of integrating technology into class-room learning are immense. Technology can make learning a fun experience for children. When used effectively it can in the long run enable children to acquire the skills that they need to survive in a complex, technology -driven world of today. Though many schools in India are using technological aids to facilitate learning, it’s not widely accessible to many children, especially those from poor families.
In order to enrich the learning experience of such children, through the use of technology, GMRVF has prepared several aids, including educational modules and films. These are then loaded in the laptops, and screened in classes in the government schools with which the Foundation works.
Objectives: To enhance the quality and effectiveness of education imparted in the government schools through the use of technology.
Process: GMRVF facilitators are trained to use the computer modules as a teaching aid and they conduct these classes at identified government schools that the Foundation works with. Gradually government school teachers are also being trained to teach these lessons.
Achievement/ strengths:
-
A total of 150 classes have been organised till now.
-
The students find the audio-visual medium of teaching interesting as the concepts are animated and visualized.
-
The modules have also been found to be effective in generating awareness amongst the village communities on issues related to health, hygiene and sanitation and discarding superstitions.
-
More and more government school teachers are beginning to realise the effectiveness of this medium and are actively supporting and participating in the programme.
