Process: The Foundation appoints Vidya Volunteers (VVs) at various government schools with whom it works. The Vidya Volunteers teach in schools where the student-teacher ratio is low and also identify and implement various after-school activities with the help of the Foundation supervisors and school authorities regularly. These activities include cultural events, debates, quizzes, elocution, bridge courses etc.
Achievement/ strengths:
Some of the highlights are:
-
Balanced focus on curricular and non-curricular activities to ensure the all round development of the children. Children are encouraged to participate in cultural events, games and competitive exams..
-
Parent - Teachers Associations (PTA) have been formed. These PTAs meet regularly - once in a month in normal case - and discuss the progress made by children and any other allied issues.
-
Cultural teams have been formed in many schools.
-
A variety of games are conducted for children in the schools. Activities outside the curriculum such as planting saplings in the school premises as part of the 'clean and green programme' are also conducted regularly.
-
The activities have also had a positive influence on the drop-outs/ potential child labourers, and other stakeholders in the community like parents, school teachers, employers of child labourers and the general public.
