Introduction: There are many bright and poor children in and around the areas where GMRVF operates. GMRVF seeks to Identify, encourage and financially support the education of the underprivileged children to enable them to realise their potential.
The programme was introduced in Rajam in 2001-02 targeting 20 children. In 2002-03, the scheme was extended to Mangalore to benefit 10 children. The initiative has been extended to 36 children in Hyderabad who are being supported through the GMR Chinmaya Vidyalaya school.
Objectives:
- To support the education of exceptionally intelligent students from poor families studying in good educational institutions.
- The Foundation focuses on the all-round development of children from Std. I till their first job.
Process: The children are generally selected from the Bala Badis that GMRVF runs. Children are observed through the year, and the most promising students are enrolled in this scheme. In case of Hyderabad, students are selected from government schools around the airport. Children come from families with an annual income of less than Rs. 50,000. Preference is given to children from socially disadvantaged families, single parent families etc.
Achievement/ strengths:
- Children from the programme have had a good school attendance history
- The children in the programme have shown improved confidence. They have also been actively participating in various events and extra-curricular activities..
- Parents are keenly involved in their children’s education.
