Overview: Strengthening Education
The Foundation undertakes various educational initiatives in the communities it works with. It also collaborates with the Government in promoting its endeavors to strengthen and improve quality of pre-school and school education.
Vidya Volunteers

GMRVF works in collaboration with the local educational authorities towards improving quality of education in government schools. The Foundation has placed Vidya Volunteers in about 50 schools where the teacher - student ratio is poor. Vidya Volunteers not only teach in the schools, but also engage the community on a personal level to ensure dropouts from schools are re-enrolled. The Volunteers use a variety of innovative teaching - learning methods to make education more joyful and meaningful. Over the years, Vidya Volunteers have been successful in re-enrolling over 950 dropouts. The Foundation also contributes in improving the school infrastructure, providing mid-day meals, building toilets among other things.

The Foundation works to make learning a joyful and fun experience for students in government schools. To this end it provides innovative teaching & learning materials and tools and also facilities teacher training.

School and Bala Badi Health check-ups
Bala Badis (Pre schools) for children in remote villages is another area of focus for GMRVF. The Foundation runs about 60 Bala Badis (make it italics at all places) in remote villages spanning all the locations where the Group businesses are located. Over 1200 children come to these Bala Badis where learning mingles with fun to prepare children for school. Apart from academics, efforts are also made to inculcate good habits in children. The children are served a nutritious snack everyday. The Foundation believes that working consistently with the 3-5 year age group also helps in motivating parents and getting them involved in their child’s learning process.

Environmental Education
GMRVF is working with a cluster of 23 high schools in Srikakulam, as a part of promoting ‘Environmental Education in Schools of Andhra Pradesh’. This is a state-level programme started and promoted by the Centre for Environmental Education involving over 1000 schools. Students learn about the environment and undertake many practical & hands-on projects like vermi-composting, making natural mosquito repellents, drip irrigation, etc. Another focus has been to extend the educational programme from the school to the community.

Supporting Meritorious Students
The Foundation has several schemes to make quality education accessible to bright, deserving students from socio-economically disadvantaged families. Today, through its ‘Gifted Children Scheme’ GMRVF sends more than 70 children to the best of schools. These children are selected after a rigorous process. Once selected, these children are supported throughout their educational years from kindergarten through college.

GMRVF also provides a number of scholarships and loans to students in professional courses like nursing, CA, etc. Currently, over 270 students avail these grants.

Vidya Jyothi
This is a scheme for deserving students of the Foundation supported SGCSR Degree College who cannot afford their education expense. They are awarded scholarships to pursue their studies. These students in turn, provide free tuitions to school students in their villages.
