GMR Energy Limited (in consortium with GMR
Infrastructure Limited) bagged the 140 MW Alaknanda Hydro Electric
Power Project in Uttarakhand through competitive bidding.
This
is the Group's first venture into the Hydro Power sector and also marks
its strategic entry into North India. The Project Development Agreement
was signed with the Govt. of Uttarakhand on October 22, 2005.
Project Features:
- A 2x70MW capacity Run-of-River type (with Pondage), harnessing a Head of 460 Metres with a design discharge of 33 Cumecs.
- The project has been awarded for a period of 45 years and is extendable for another 20 years.
- Project has Free Power Royalty of 12% of the energy generated to the State of Uttarakhand for the PPA term.
- The
Project has a high PLF (57%) and with 702.72 MUs potential, with a
Peaking generation capability of ~ 4 hours of the rated capacity making
it ideal to meet the country’s seasonal power demand, especially that
of the Northern Region.
- Estimated to cost around Rs. 700 Crs, the project is expected to achieve commercial operation by 2011-12.
